    The gun operates based on the concept of delayed auditory feedback. An attached microphone picks up the sound being made by the target and plays it back 0.2 seconds later. The effect is incredibly confusing to the human brain, making it all but impossible to talk or hold a conversation. The device doesn't cause the person it's being used on any physical harm — it simply messes with their head.

    When the human brain hears its own speech perfectly in sync during normal speech, it easily processes the input and allows you to largely ignore the sound of your own voice. However, by offsetting the response just a bit, the brain hears your mouth speaking as well as the strange echo effect produced by the gun. This unusual combination is confusing enough to effectively shut down the part of your brain responsible for managing speech, and you fall immediately silent.

New York City welcomed newlyweds Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries with open arms on Wednesday night. The pair attended a bash thrown in their honor and held at downtown Manhattan's Capitale, officially welcoming the couple as the latest members of the city's upper echelon.

The party had a black-and-white theme, like the pair's nuptials late last month, and was dubbed the "Night of Style and Glamour" soiree, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The pair's family, fellow celebrities, socialites and reality stars, including Lance Bass, Paul Shaffer, Tinsley Mortimer, and "Real Housewives of New York" stars Ramona Singer, Alex McCord, and Simon Van Kempen, were all in attendance, and Colin Cowie hosted the event.

"Welcome to New York!!!! @ KrisHumphries @ ScottDisick @ KourtneyKardash @ JonathanCheban @ scottsartiano @ CarlaDiBello @ lala! What a fun nite!" Kim tweeted about the bash. "Such a glam night NYC! Thanks for the warm welcome! Thanks again @ JasonBinn @ ColinCowie!!! Now I get to sleep in! I need some major rest!"

The glamorous event featured a violinist dressed in lingerie playing alongside a DJ. When the couple walked into the party, the DJ played Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' "Empire State of Mind." They later cut into a cake emblazoned with "Welcome to NYC Kim & Kris."

A two-part TV special, "Kim's Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event," is slated to air in October on E! Cameras were rolling at the party, presumably to be included in the special. Humphries plays for the New Jersey Nets, while Kim, along with her sister Kourtney, is back in NYC to shoot the new season of "Kourtney & Kim Take New York."
